Tesla has announced it will reveal its all-new Model X crossover this year — way ahead of schedule. During a recent call with investors, CEO Elon Musk said that the all-electric seven-seater will make its debut in mid-December.

“The plan is to have an unveiling of the Model X prototype in the mid-December time frame,” Musk said. “So far it’s looking good, I don’t think anything will cause an issue.”

The Model X the crossover isn’t expected to go into production until 2013. The automaker expects to produce just 15,000 units per year at first, but it could see greater output in 2014 and beyond.

There’s another highly anticipated new model inching its way down the pipeline at Tesla. Aside from the Model X, Tesla is preparing to launch the Model S sedan (pictured above). The Beta version of the car should be revealed in October.

Development on both vehicles has been helped by an extra $210 million that was raised in June. Musk said he didn’t expect to need any additional funding at this time.

”At this point we don’t anticipate any need for a secondary between now and the start of the Model X production,” Musk said. “If we see a significant opportunity and it’s worth the dilution to pursue that opportunity, then we’ll go to market. But we don’t foresee doing that.”
