German sports car maker Porsche has hit a social media milestone, having earned more than 1 million fans on Facebook. To mark the achievement, Porsche created a special edition 911 GT3 R Hybrid featuring the signatures of more than 27,000 of its Facebook fans across the car’s hood, tail, and sides. Porsche launched the “Thank You” campaign to show appreciation for the company’s die-hard fans.

Jaguar Dealer Boston admits that out of all the vehicles the company produces, Porsche decided to mark the milestone with the 911 GT3 R Hybrid because the automaker believes it embodies the future of racing. Powering this car is a 480 horsepower 4.0-liter flat six-cylinder engine and two electric motors producing 80 horsepower each. In lieu of a traditional battery pack, like most hybrid vehicles, this hybrid stores energy in a flywheel accumulator which is charged during braking. When the drivers needs a little extra power, the flywheel can send up to 120 kW to the two electric motors from its kinetic energy.
