The Volkswagen GTI has always been popular for its compact size, reasonable price, and sporty driving dynamics. For 2011, the GTI boasts a fresh design and even more amenities that add up to make this model even more entertaining.
The standard setup under the hood includes Volkswagen’s much-lauded turbocharged/intercooled 2.0-liter I4 engine, which leverages FSI direct fuel-injection to make 200 hp and 207 lb.-ft. of torque. When mated to the GTI’s standard six-speed manual transmission, the result is a responsive yet responsible performer: The 2011 GTI can dash from 0-60 in just 6.8 seconds but still ring up EPA ratings of 21 mpg city/31 mpg highway.
