Mazda5 To Get Diesel Power, But It’s Not Expected Here

2011 Mazda5 imageIn Europe, the all-new 2012 Mazda5 will be taking on vehicles like the Ford C-Max and a slew of other compact minivians and MPVs. To make it more competitive, the Mazda5 will be offered with a fuel-sipping diesel engine, but don’t expect that unit to arrive in the U.S. anytime soon.

According to Mazda, this setup will deliver a 0-60 mph time of 13.7 seconds, and it will achieve a top speed of 112 mph. The diesel engine, and extensive weight reduction, will help the European Mazda5 achieve an impressive 45 miles per gallon (U.S.).
