A successful new partnership between one of the country’s fastest-growing auto brands and one of professional basketball’s most dynamic new stars? Consider it a slam dunk: After memorably jumping over an all-new Kia Optima to win the Slam Dunk Contest during the 2011 NBA All-Star Game (see the video below), Rookie of the Year Blake Griffin has signed with Team Kia as its newest spokesperson.
Griffin, who also plays for the National Basketball Association’s Los Angeles Clippers, will appear in upcoming Kia marketing and advertising campaigns, support the automaker’s charitable activities, make public appearances around the world, and more. It’s a role the young All-Star clearly embraces.
“Kia is a company on the rise and knows that to be the best you have to work the hardest,” said Griffin. “Kia’s hard work has paid off and their great-looking and fun-to-drive products are a testament to their burning desire to be the best. I trust the Kia brand, and I’m honored and excited to partner with a company I truly believe in.”
According to Kia Dealership In Orange County, in addition to this new partnership, Kia will continue to support the NBA as the Official Automotive Partner of the NBA, the NBA All-Star Game and NBA Cares, title partner of the Kia NBA Performance Awards, presenting partner of the 2011 NBA draft, and strategic partner of 13 NBA teams, including the Clippers.
“Blake Griffin is one of the most exciting players in basketball and has proven that he is an all-star on and off the court, with extraordinary talent and a youthful, dynamic style that matches the energy and spirit Kia puts into every vehicle it produces,” said Michael Sprague, vice president, marketing & communications, KMA. “Expanding our presence in professional basketball by adding Blake Griffin as a global spokesperson will allow us to continue our momentum.”
