Once again, the muscle car wars have heated up. The Chevrolet Camaro, Ford Mustang, and Dodge Challenger, are all vying to be the king of the muscle car heap, even while import sports cars continue to make inroads. But Detroit’s muscle is standing tall, and Cars.com recently analyzed where these three modern classics are most popular.
Based on search data from Cars.com from May 2009 to May 2010, the interactive map below shows the concentration of searches above the Cars.com average searches for a particular muscle car.
The reason why many metro areas are largely absent is because they are too heavily populated to result in a substantial spike in specific muscle car searches.
Car.com found that the highest number of searches among all three muscle cars was attributed to the one pony car that didn’t go on a hiatus: the Ford Mustang.
