Hawaii is known more for its sunshine and sand. But, there is one major drop-off in Hawaii’s new car sales, which fell 21.4 percent in 2009. Experts feel the state’s recovery in 2010 will be very anemic. In 2009, only 33,639 new cars and light trucks were sold. Almost, less than half of the record number of 70,268 new cars and light trucks were sold in 2005. Since 2006, the Hawaii Auto Dealers Association has revealed a decline in new car sales throughout the state.
Roughly 33,000 new vehicles and light trucks were sold in 2009. Approximately 9,165 vehicles were sold in 2008, which made 2009 one of the worst years in the state’s history. The average price for either a new vehicle or light truck in Hawaii runs about $22,000. over the span of only one year. Within a span of only one year, Hawaii’s sales have declined by an estimated $203 million dollars.
Experts from the automotive industry are at odds over how well sales will rebound in 2010. One expert feels the state’s new vehicle and light truck sales will increase 9.7 percent for 2010. While, another expert sees only a 3 percent increase in sales for 2010. The 3 percent increase is predicted by the Hawaii Auto Dealers Association. About 1,500 more vehicles would have sold compared to the 3 percent increase.
In other parts of the country, the outlook is more optimistic, and those specializing in car loans Boston expect sales grow steadily through the remainder of 2010. In Southern California, the thawing economy is felt at Corona Toyota as more consumers are visiting showrooms. However, many dealers are seeing that consumers are buying different vehicles from recent years, particularly as more consumers are focusing on efficiency.
