GM Adds “Enhanced Smart Pedal” Globally By 2012

The scrutiny over Toyota’s “recallathon” has clearly illustrated that unintended acceleration is a more complex issue than meets the eye. After all, when the government asks NASA scientists to help figure it out, chances are the cause isn’t merely black and white. It’s this same concern that has fueled the demand for brake override systems in order to safeguard drivers against this rare, yet very real problem and General Motors is the latest automaker to add this safety feature throughout their lineup.

“We know safety is top of mind for consumers, so we are applying additional technology to reassure them that they can count on the brakes in their GM vehicle,” says Tom Stephens, vice chairman, GM Global Product Operations.
