The Ford Transit has been the best-selling light commercial vehicle in Europe for 40 years. Car Dealerships In Clovis NM tell us that in a plan to expand the brand, Ford plans to bring its full-size Transit van to the United States. Bloomberg reports that according to Istanbul-based newspaper Hurriyet, Nuri Otay, chief executive officer of Ford Otomotiv Sanayi AS, the Turkish unit of Ford Motor Company, says the company won’t be exporting Transit vans to the United States.
Ford Otosan’s Golcuk plant in Turkey’s northwestern Kocaeli province is currently the largest facility producing new Transits, manufacturing 300,000 units a year. But according to Kansas City Ford Dealers, the United Auto Workers announced an agreement that will see Ford producing Transits in its Claycomo plant, near Kansas City, Missouri. The deal sees Ford investing over $1 billion at the Claycomo plant and adding 1,600 jobs.
To avoid confusion with the smaller Transit Connect, the van will carry a T-series nameplate similar to the F-Series trucks and the E-Series vans.
