Ford Adds Fuel-Saving Tires To New Models

2012 Ford Focus imageFord has been promoting its latest fuel-saving powertrain technologies on efficient models like the new Fiesta and Focus. But one technology that also helps conserve fuel is the tires these models are riding on. Ford’s industry-leading 40-plus-mpg cars feature low-rolling-resistance tires that boost fuel economy by about 2 miles per gallon.

“Tire technology, pressures and wear can make a big difference to a vehicle’s fuel economy, so Ford is working closely with leading tire companies to optimize performance with low-rolling-resistance tires,” said David Rohweder, global chief engineer for Tire and Wheel Engineering.
