Feds Slap Toyota With $16.4M Fine

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that the agency will be seeking the maximum penalty against Toyota for its failure to promptly notify authorities of the “sticky pedal” defect. It will be the largest fine ever levied against an automaker.

“Safety is our top priority and we will vigorously pursue companies that put consumers at risk,” said NHTSA Administrator David Strickland. “We will continue to hold Toyota accountable for any additional violations we find in our ongoing investigation.”

While the fine is steep, Littleton Toyota dealerships expect Toyota to pay it and show good faith toward regulators. Whether Toyota will admit the wrong doing being implied is another matter entirely.
