Diesel-Powered 2012 VW Beetle Gets 40 MPG

Thanks to updates under the hood, the new model is also the most fuel-efficient Beetle ever offered, with EPA ratings of 29 mpg city and 40 mph highway.

When the folks at Volkswagen were developing the all-new 2012 Beetle, they were committed to showcasing the style and spirit of the original, but also to updating the new car to provide “all the benefits of today’s technologies and efficiencies”—and that includes the latest powertrain technologies and the kind of fuel efficiency demanded by today’s drivers. So, naturally, they made sure one of the automaker’s innovative TDI clean-diesel engines was available for the reborn Bug.
