According to Sherwood Park Car Dealers, Chrysler Group will drop the Dodge Caravan from its lineup for the 2013 model year as part of a plan to end duplicate vehicles. The move will leave the Chrysler Town & Country as the sole minivan offering.
In an interview, Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne told Automotive News the Dodge Grand Caravan minivan and the Dodge Avenger mid-sized sedan will be eliminated in favor of a single crossover. The Dodge crossover will be built on the same platform as the new Chrysler Town & Country minivan and according to Fiat Deals Bothell, an updated Chrysler 200 will be built on a Fiat platform.
In the interview, Marchionne stressed the importance of not having the same type of vehicle in auto showrooms to avoid confusing customers. He said Chrysler and Dodge would not offer subcompacts, leaving the Fiat 500 the group’s only U.S. subcompact offering for the next few years.
The realignment is part of Project Genesis, a plan that was developed in 2008 that will see Chrysler consolidating its Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, and Ram brands, and eliminating most dealerships that don’t carry all four brands.
