You know the cars. High-quality driving machines that can satisfy anyone—even if they’re not for everyone. According to the editors at Edmunds.com: “These are the dark horses—the cars that somehow fly just below the radar when it comes to consumer awareness, but nevertheless have a lot to offer shoppers on the hunt for quality and value.”
And the Buick LaCrosse is now officially one of them, recently earning recognition as one of the website’s “Top 10 Best Dark-Horse Cars of 2010.”
The Edmunds.com team found a lot to like about the striking LaCrosse, beginning with its “bold assertive sheet metal.” The sculpted design showcases a highly distinctive character line on the car’s flanks and a notably athletic stance, along with an aggressive front fascia that lets drivers know “this is truly a Buick for a new generation.”
That sophisticated design approach continues in “one of the most stylish interiors in the segment.” Here, premium materials, accents like ambient lighting, and Buick’s unique QuietTuning” noise-suppression efforts make for an incredibly comfortable cabin for the driver and passengers alike. Naturally, the LaCrosse also offers a wide range of convenience features, too, including a navigation system, premium audio setup and GM’s OnStar Automatic Crash Response technology.
“Sharp, well-balanced driving dynamics round out the picture,” according to Edmunds.com, and that’s a result of a serious commitment by Buick engineers to showcase the LaCrosse’s road manners. Advanced all-wheel drive, a potent 280-hp V6, an electronic six-speed automatic with Driver Shift Control and the LaCrosse’s innovative HiPer Strut suspension are all in the mix with this Buick.
HiPer Strut is a cutting-edge, high-performance strut setup that reduces torque steer, improves camber control to offer improved steering feel and enhances performance on uneven road surfaces—and the LaCrosse is the first car in North America to offer it.
With this kind of all-around excellence—and despite its “dark-horse” status—the LaCrosse is also a top performer in the marketplace. In fact, sales of the LaCrosse have increased an amazing 214 percent through the first five months of the year.
“Each month we continue to see new consumers discovering the LaCrosse, and Edmunds.com’s ‘Top 10 Best Dark-Horse Cars of 2010’ award confirms the growing momentum behind the car,” said Roger McCormack, Buick marketing manager. “The demand for the LaCrosse is showing no signs of slowing down, and we are always encouraged to see new consumers that are searching for a vehicle that offers styling, performance and quality without a premium price tag.”
