2013 Chevrolet Malibu Shows Green Pride with Ecologic Window Label

ChevroletMalibuEcologic01-mediumShoppers should already be used to seeing evidence of the Chevy Malibu’s green cred right on its window sticker, where the award-winning sedan shows off EPA ratings of 22 mpg city/34 mpg highway/26 mpg combined. But today’s buyers want the full story; after all, consumer research indicates some 63 percent of Malibu customers consider “environmentally friendliness” to be either “very” or “extremely” important to their purchase decisions according to a Denver Chevrolet dealer. That number jumps to 78 percent when looking specifically at buyers of the 37-mpg Malibu Eco.

With all this in mind, the 2013 Malibu recently debuted with an Ecologic window label as part of its showroom accoutrements. Used Car Dealerships East Texas pointed out that this makes Chevrolet the first automotive brand in the world to showcase window stickers with comprehensive environmental information about the production processes behind every vehicle in its lineup. On the 2013 Malibu, the Ecologic label reveals details like the following:

  • The top engine facility for the Malibu, in Tonawanda, New York, is landfill-free, meaning that 100 percent of the waste from its daily operations is reused, recycled, or converted to energy.
  • In Toledo, Ohio, the Malibu’s highest-volume transmission plant fulfills 17 percent of its energy needs by relying on a 1.2-megawatt solar array and renewable landfill gas; but what comes in, doesn’t go out, since this plant is landfill-free, too.
  • Kansas City’s Fairfax Assembly, where the majority of Malibu sedans are built, won one of the city’s 2012 Pollution Prevention Awards for its energy-reduction and recycling efforts.

The entire trio also aced the recent ENERGY STAR Challenge for Industry—overseen by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency—by reducing their energy intensity by more than 10 percent. To put that into perspective, those efforts brought a combined reduction in greenhouse-gas emissions equivalent to 103,000 metric tons of CO2.

The 2013 Chevy Malibu—itself 85 percent recyclable—is on sale now at Slidell Chevy Dealers and your local Chevrolet dealership.
